Radford Bubbles
Project Designer | Coventry City of Culture
with Fran Monks and Radford community photographers
Capturing a snapshot of life during the pandemic, Radford Bubbles is a photography project focusing on social ‘bubbles’ within the community of Radford. Working with internationally-renowned photographer Fran Monks, the project trained ten local photographers and captured images of over 50 bubbles - individuals, families and community groups.
As the designer for the project, I created the backdrops within which the photographers captured portraits of members of their community. Inspired by the iridescent surface of a soap bubble, dichroic film was used as the primary material, creating a colourful, multi-layered effect to the images. Panels of the film were hung from a scaffolding framework to create a pop-up studio space. This framework was then adapted to form an exhibition space which has toured local events, libraries and government conferences.
